We’re back again with Meet the Staff. With a few new staff members, we’re introducing (or reintroducing) the entire staff to STC members. This will also give those going to the Summit a way to get to know the people you’ll be seeing all over the place running things, so feel free to come up and say hi. You’re welcome to pose questions for the staffer as well, and we’ll try our best to answer.
What’s your name and title?
Isatu Turay, Education Coordinator
What is your area of expertise?
My area of expertise is with online education, from web seminars to online courses. I handle all aspects of running the seminar.
Titles are one thing—what do you actually *do* at STC?
What don’t I do? Let’s see. I recruit, coordinate, rehearse, moderate, register, and fulfill any other duties that may come up with all Web seminars and online certificate courses. I handle the mailing of certificates. I also assist a bit with the competitions.
Care to tell us a bit about your family/pets/etc.?
My lovely family! There is my mother, who is the light of my life. She has had some medical issues but she is coming along. We have my father, who is in Sierra Leone. He is not well but getting better. I have three sisters: one is stationed in Hawaii, and I will be visiting her as soon as the Summit is over; one lives close to me and keeps me busy with her six children; and one lives with my father and her mom in Sierra Leone taking care of him. I was a licensed foster parent for five years. My little boy just went back to his mom, so I bought a dog. She is actually a ShihPoo (Shih Tzu/Poodle) and her name is Betty Boop.
What do you do when you’re not hard at work for STC?
When I am not working hard at STC, I am at “The Best Show On The Dirt,” the Urban Inspirational Kickball League (UIKL), as a cheerleader for them. It’s so much fun.
Can you tell us about an odd talent or skill you’re particularly proud of?
I used to be a cheerleader, from elementary to high school.
