STC President Michael Hughes visited Stately STC Manor over the weekend with the certification committee (more on that in a later blog post). While he was in town, Your Friendly Neighborhood Blogger got him and Executive Director Kathryn Burton to sit down and talk a bit about Project Phoenix, certification, and STC. The below video is the result. Enjoy!

Yes, I called it a “tape” at the end; that’s how old I am 🙂
I love the statement that STC will be at the center of the Tech Comm profession. That’s really what we’ve been talking about, and it’s where we need to go.
Some members will listen to this interview and ask, If STC is making everything available to everyone — members and nonmembers — then why should I remain a member? It’s a good question. I think the answer is that STC truly will be the center of the profession — and anyone who’s serious about being a technical communicator will naturally want to belong.
Are we there yet? No. Will I be renewing my membership in 2011? Yes, if for no other reason than to say that I believe in STC and I want to be a part of what it’s about to become.
