Guest post by the Community Affairs Committee.
The last two weeks (here and here), we introduced several Community Affairs Committee (CAC) members, who put in a lot of time and effort to make your role as community leader go smoother. Each one of the CAC members firmly believes that strong communities = strong STC. Please give them your support.
Meet the rest of the CAC members:
Robert Rhyne Armstrong is director of documentation at RouteMatch Software. He has 19 years experience in the technical communication field, often moving from the core discipline of technical writing to the outlying roles of corporate communication, product marketing, and user experience design. Over the last several years, Rhyne has consulted on social media and social networking strategies for several organizations and individuals, and often dives head-first into emerging technologies and communication trends. He is a senior member of STC, serving on the Community Affairs Committee and on the leadership council of the Atlanta Chapter. Rhyne resides in Alpharetta, GA where he spends most of his time shuttling any of his four kids to church, soccer, ballet, or gymnastics. He is a rabid soccer fan, a youth athletics coach, and a follower and alumnus of the University of South Carolina.
Bethany Bowles is a new member of STC and a graduate student at the University of Central Florida (UCF), where she is president of the Future Technical Communicators (FTC), president of the Zeta Xi chapter of the English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta, and a student assistant at the College of Arts and Humanities. Bethany is currently serving on STC’s Community Affairs Committee as co-lead of the student member outreach initiative. As a student member of STC’s Orlando Central Florida chapter, she is co-manager of the chapter’s mentoring program pairing professionals with student STC members in FTC at UCF.
Steve Skojec, STC’s director of community relations, believes that STC exists to serve the profession of technical communication, and at the heart of this mission stands our membership. The facilitation of excellent communication between the organization and its members enables productive collaboration, maximizes the utilization of mutual resources, and is thus essential to our task. Listening to members’ needs and concerns and proactively offering solutions that provide value and benefit to the profession is how we will chart our course toward the future.
Tricia Spayer is on the STC Board of Directors and Chair of the CAC. She’s been an active member of the Northeast Ohio chapter since 2000. She was asked to volunteer at her first meeting, and the rest is history! Without the chapter’s support, dedication, and warm sense of community, who knows how different the story would be? She firmly believes that STC’s communities are the backbone of the Society and wants them to flourish.
