Distinguished Community Service Awards

The Distinguished Community Service Awards recognize the hard work and commitment of STC’s community leaders. The three awards — the Distinguished Chapter Service Award, Distinguished SIG Service Award, and Distinguished Service Award for Students — recognize an individual’s exemplary effort, energy, and dedication to their community and its activities. This is the highest level of recognition that a member can receive for service to their community.

Congratulations to the Student Infographic Competition Winners!

The STC Academic SIG invited STC student members to demonstrate their ability to clarify complex data sets and exercise their creative talents by entering a Student Infographic Competition at the 2016 Summit. This year, the Academic SIG changed its annual poster competition to an infographic competition. The challenge was to present either of two important aspects of the STC Salary Database as an infographic. Two winners were chosen. They will each have their work published in Intercom magazine as well as win a cash prize. The two winners will be highlighted during the Honors Reception. The Student Infographic Committee consisted of Lisa Meloncon (Chair), Phylise Banner, Eva Brumberger, and William Horton.

Sharing Award Recognition

When your community presents a member with an award, you are telling the world about the great contributions of that member. However, the world might not be on your community website or newsletter, and you should be certain the award winner’s employers know about the award. One way to do so is to send a message directly to the awardee’s supervisor. Below we present a template for such purposes, originally written with a Distinguished Chapter Service Award in mind.

A Year of Growth: STC 2015 Year In Review

The Society for Technical Communication is pleased to publish its 2015 Year in Review, highlighting accomplishments, major initiatives, and updates to programming that advance the mission of the STC.

The report reviews accomplishments in the past year and the actions taken by the board, staff, and volunteers to strengthen the Society, both in terms of the value and satisfaction it provides members and its sustainability as a business. The report is intended to give members insight and information about the association they have so generously supported. Included in the report are details on ongoing programming (membership, education, conference, online presence, and publications), highlights on new programs (reopening of CPTC certification), new benefits, and a financial update.
