Front-End Web Development and the Technical Writer

The web is huge and made up of many different components. There are so many different programming and scripting languages that a novice can become overwhelmed. It might be tempting for some technical writers – those not particularly well versed in computer programming – to become intimidated by the web and think that they should rely fully on programmers for the actual building of a website (specifically front-end development), but that is a mistake. All technical writers should care about and can learn front-end web development.

Congratulations to the Student Infographic Competition Winners!

The STC Academic SIG invited STC student members to demonstrate their ability to clarify complex data sets and exercise their creative talents by entering a Student Infographic Competition at the 2016 Summit. This year, the Academic SIG changed its annual poster competition to an infographic competition. The challenge was to present either of two important aspects of the STC Salary Database as an infographic. Two winners were chosen. They will each have their work published in Intercom magazine as well as win a cash prize. The two winners will be highlighted during the Honors Reception. The Student Infographic Committee consisted of Lisa Meloncon (Chair), Phylise Banner, Eva Brumberger, and William Horton.

STC Student Members: Deadline Extended for Summit Volunteers!

Benefits:  Volunteers receive complimentary registration (a $200 value) for the Summit. This enables them to visit the Exhibit Hall, attend all the receptions, enjoy the coffee breaks and other networking events. In addition, like the other attendees who pay the full price for the Summit, volunteers will receive complimentary access to the Summit Playback. This will enable them to view the sessions they might have missed due to their volunteer responsibilities.
