STC Wins Multiple APEX Awards

The Society for Technical Communication recently won an APEX Grand Award and two APEX Awards of Excellence in APEX 2010, the 22nd Annual Awards for Publication Excellence Competition.

According to the APEX website, “APEX 2010 awards were based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the success of the entry—in the opinion of the judges—in achieving overall communications effectiveness and excellence.”

Intercom was honored with the Grand Award—“of the thousands of entries, only 100 received Grand Awards, the highest recognition the APEX judges can present,” reported the website—while Technical Communication won the Award of Excellence for magazines and journals over 32 pages. STC’s webmaster, Shaf Syed, also won an Award of Excellence for his work on the STC website.

The Grand Award for Intercom came in the category of Electronic and Video Publications, for the flipbook version of the magazine (submitted issue: February 2010). The judges stated, “Superbly written and edited features, top notch graphics and a clean, easy navigating online format—all combine to produce an exceptional online magazine.”

Three STC communities also took home awards:

Newsletter Writing, The Willamette Galley Staff, the Willamette Valley Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication

One to Two Person–Produced Web & Intranet Sites, The Technical Editing SIG of the Society for Technical Communication

Most Improved Web & Intranet Sites, Deanne Levander, Carol Widstrand, Society for Technical Communication—Twin Cities Community
