There’s no three ways about it—the “Tech Comm Summit Triangle” will be the place to be from 15–18 May 2011, as the Society for Technical Communication descends upon Sacramento, CA, for the 2011 Technical Communication Summit.
Comprised of the Sacramento Convention Center and the two official conference hotels—the Hyatt Regency and the Sheraton Grand—the Tech Comm Summit Triangle promises to showcase technical communication’s gold-standard event in the city that invites visitors to “Discover Gold.”
The Sacramento Convention Center is located in the heart of downtown, across from the State Capitol building and a short drive from the airport. It offers plentiful space for the Summit’s education sessions, a wide-open area for the Expo, and easy access to the conference hotels and many of the city’s finest restaurants.
The Hyatt Regency, the second point of the Tech Comm Summit Triangle, is located just across the street from the convention center. The Hyatt Regency is a AAA Four Diamond Hotel with over 500 rooms. In-hotel dining includes Dawson’s, with head chef Ian Libberton (Zagat’s calls it “a hotel restaurant that holds its own with any in town”), and Vines Cafe, which offers breakfast and lunch as well as an “award-winning” Sunday brunch. For a drink or two after a long day of learning, plan on hitting Dawson’s Bar or Amourath 1819. The latter even features an outdoor patio with fireplaces in case the night grows cool.
The third point of the triangle is the Sheraton Grand, which was once the historic Public Market Building. Fresh off of a $5 million restoration, the Sheraton Grand also boasts over 500 rooms, is just across the street from the convention center, and one short block from the Hyatt. The main dining option is Morgan’s Central Valley Bistro, located in the hotel’s atrium and offering a breakfast buffet, a “California fresh cuisine” lunch, and an elegant dinner. Glides Market offers a quick breakfast or lunch, with coffee and pastries for breakfast and salads and sandwiches for a quick lunch. And the Public Market Bar is sure to host after-hours networking over drinks during the Summit.
The three sites are also within walking distance of many other restaurants, bars, and tourist attractions, giving multiple options for eating, drinking, and sightseeing. Historic Sacramento with its riverside restaurants and attractions are just a short cab ride away. The Tech Comm Summit Triangle will play a most welcoming host to all of the technical communicators in attendance.
As written in the September/October Intercom, the rate for both hotels is $174 a night for single and double accommodations. Hotel registration will open at the same time registration for the Summit does, 1 December. Please visit the conference website (http://summit.stc.org) for a link to register for your hotel and links to more information about all three sites.
