The President’s Award honors one or more persons or institutions that have made distinguished contributions to the profession or the Society. The STC president announced the name of this year’s recipient during the opening session of the Society’s annual conference.
The year 2010 saw the emergence of the Community Affairs Committee in STC. This committee was envisioned, organized, and empowered by Judith Herr, who previously was the SIG Advocate and was a longtime member of the Board of Directors (through 2011). STC President Hillary Hart presented her with the President’s Award during the opening general session at the Summit.
“I first met Judith Herr when she came to the business meeting of the SIG I was managing in the early years of the last decade,” said Hart. “She was full of good ideas for the SIG and obviously passionate about STC communities, both virtual and geographic. Judy has used her experience with grassroots organizing to empower STC community leaders and to ensure two-way communication with the Board of Directors. She is amazing, and I will miss her sorely.”
Tricia Spayer served with Herr on the Board of Directors and on the committee. “I had the privilege of working closely with Judith this past year,” said Spayer, “being co-chair of the Community Affairs Committee with her. What a dynamo! Even though she’s mostly retired, Judy still gives her STC work 110 percent effort. Judy has an uncanny ability to be gracious to everyone, making them feel important and heard. She recognizes, edifies, and empowers volunteers to do more than they thought they could.”
Congratulations to Judith for this high honor, and thank you for your service to the Society.
