By Mark Clifford | Associate Fellow, Chair, Nominating Committee
Are you interested in becoming a candidate for elective office in 2012? Do you know someone who would make a great contribution to the Society by being elected? Are you interested in learning more about a particular office? Can you suggest other members for office? If so, the Nominating Committee would like to hear from you.
The STC Board of Directors includes leaders with both business and academic backgrounds. All candidates must be senior STC members, experienced working at a strategic level, comfortable making decisions collaboratively, and focused on outcomes. Previous Society-level leadership experience is not as important as having gained professional skills in managing people, projects, and budgets. Being an STC board member is a chance to leverage these skills to lead a not-for-profit organization and to help ensure that the Society continues providing members with an increasing quality of opportunities and services.
If you can rise to this challenge, complete the candidate nomination form (to the right) and return it to the Society office. The form has also been posted on the STC website at http://notebook.stc.org/election. You can also obtain it from the Society office; contact stc_election@stc.org or call +1 (703) 522-4114 and request that the candidate nomination form be mailed to you.
Use the same form if you want to recommend someone to stand. You may submit more than one form if you want to recommend more than one person. The deadline for receipt of all forms is 1 July 2011. [Note: The deadline has been extended to 31 July.]
The Nominating Committee invites expressions of interest from all members who would like to help direct and administer Society-level activities. This year, the Nominating Committee seeks prospects for the offices of:
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Director (four positions)
- Nominating Committee Member (two positions).
Members who complete the nomination form (or who are recommended by others) do not automatically become candidates. Once the forms are received, the committee calls all prospects to confirm their interest. Once confirmed, interested prospects are asked to forward additional information, which the committee uses to determine candidacy.
A healthy board combines the talents of seasoned leaders with the fresh perspectives of new board members. All interested senior members are therefore encouraged to complete and submit the nomination form by 31 July 2011.
