Steven Jong Honored with 2012 President’s Award

The President’s Award honors one or more persons or institutions that have made distinguished contributions to the profession or the Society. The STC President announced the name of this year’s recipients during the opening session of the Society’s annual conference.

The year 2011 saw a 33-year dream come to fruition with the creation of the STC Certification Commission. Steven Jong was the spearhead behind this commission and is currently the chairman. STC President Hillary Hart presented him with the President’s Award during the opening general session at the 2012 Summit in Rosemont, Illinois.

Hart commented, “Steve has brought the most extraordinary dedication to bear upon achieving a long-term goal of the Society: a professional program of recognition for the value that technical communicators bring to their companies and to society. He has worked tirelessly over the past few years leading a team to plan, develop, and administer a technical communication certification program that will provide tangible benefits to technical communicators themselves and to the employers who hire them. I am so proud to be able to give him the award that means the most to any STC President.”

STC CEO Kathryn Burton has worked closely with Jong on certification and praised the selection as well. “Steve’s due diligence in making sure the STC Certification process meets the highest standards, his willingness to get involved in all aspects, and his leadership of the Commission Board have truly been extraordinary. Working with Steve on this has been a pleasure and an honor.”

Congratulations to Steven Jong for this high honor, and thank you for your service to the Society.
