ABOUT THE WEBINAR
In the 2010 US Census, 19 percent of Americans reported having a disability in 2010. Yet the shame of it is that only 41 percent of those age 21-64 with any disability were employed, compared with 79% of those with no disability. What can you do about it? What must you do about it? As a technical communicator, there are some specific things you can do to ensure that every document you write has accessibility built in, to help even the playing field for people with disabilities.
This webinar will
- Provide an overview of accessibility and Section 508,
- Explain specifically how you can prepare your Microsoft Office files for accessibility, and
- Explain how to create accessible PDFs.
While we won’t have time during the webinar for hands-on exercises, the instructor will provide all attendees with exercises you can do at home or work to practice what you’ve learned.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Carolyn Kelley Klinger is a Technical Writer for Leidos Biomedical Research, a subsidiary of Leidos, who provides wiki content management and technical writing services to the National Cancer Institute. She has been at the NCI either as independent consultant or employee for 13 years.
Carolyn is also a proud Fellow of the Society for Technical Communication, Certified Professional Technical Communicator, and longtime volunteer for the STC Washington, DC – Baltimore Chapter.
