NY Metro Chapter Presents Saul Carliner in Meeting and Half-Day Workshop on 16 June

Guest post from the STC NY Metro Chapter

STC NY Metro and Saul Carliner ask: What can we learn from the cancellations of blockbuster TV soaps? Join them on 16 June for the answer.

All My Children and One Life to Live are getting cancelled. What does it have to do with us?

Did you know that Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) from All My Children, after 40 years wound up marrying 10 husbands? You have to admit that’s quite an achievement in creative writing and rewriting!

Blogs about the two “end of an era” soaps talk about how the genre of storytelling soaps are now “washed up” in favor of daily talk shows, reality shows, food or diet shows.

We anticipate that Saul will clarify how to professionally not to be in the “washed up” category.

As writers and trainers, we seek to learn new skills, adapt to multiple roles and repackage ourselves to deliver. Every year, the list and demands grow longer as skills, requirements, technology, the environment, competition and expectations change.

Let’s speculate: Can 10 of our unique roles be equivalent to 10 Erica Kane husbands and marriages?  Are there more lessons and stories? (If not, can this presentation, at the least, entertain you?)

In addition, Saul Carliner is conducting a half-day workshop on Internally Marketing your Communication Services.

Who should attend: Internal managers, instructional designers, information designers, senior technical communicators, and senior trainers who have responsibility for promoting their department's services within the organization. Although focused on people working internally, those working externally are likely to find material of interest to them, too.

STC New York Metro invites you to a half-day workshop and the evening meeting featuring Saul Carliner, STC Fellow, on 16 June. Click for more information and to register.
