2022 Summit News: Traveling to Chicago for Summit 2022

By STC Chicago Summit Host Committee

STC Chicago is thrilled to host you in Rosemont for Summit 2022. As you prepare for your trip, here are a few items that might help you prepare.

Weather in May

If you’re not from the area, you may be wondering how to pack for your Chicago getaway. After all, we’re famous for wind and cold, and we’ll just be crawling out of that winter chill.

In the state of Illinois, Chicago sits alongside the waters of Lake Michigan, which is responsible for its iconically cold and persistent winds. In May, the weather is much more tolerable as temperatures rise and the sun shines through the clouds—although it can be rainy at this time of year as well. The Chicagoland area typically sees 3.7 inches (93 mm) of rain over the course of 12 rainy days. The sun shines 58% of the day, with an average of 7 clear days.

Chicago weather can be unpredictable, so you'll need to dress in layers. The city is notorious for its dramatic temperature drops, sometimes with daily temperatures that rise or fall by 20 degrees or more in one day. Pack some light sweaters or long-sleeved T-shirts and a pair of jeans. It can still get very cold at night, so you'll want to pack a warm spring coat and maybe a scarf and hat in case the temperature drops a lot. It doesn't rain often in May, but it could still happen so you may want to pack an umbrella just in case. Long story short, check the weather as close to your departure as you can to know best how to pack.

This year, meteorologists are predicting a 75% chance for normal to above normal temperatures with a 73% chance for normal to above normal rainfall.

When you’re not attending sessions or networking at Summit 2022, we recommend you get out in Rosemont or Chicago to experience the area’s many offerings at this ideal time of year.

Getting to Chicago

Rosemont, IL is located just outside of Chicago proper, but conveniently close to O’Hare International airport. However, Chicago has two airports: O’Hare and Midway. O’Hare is our main international airport, so if you’re coming from overseas, you’ll likely be forced to fly into O’Hare. Midway is a smaller, mostly domestic airport that primarily services Southwest Airlines.

O’Hare’s airport code is ORD and Midway’s is MDW, but a pro tip when searching for airfare is to use the code CHI, which encompasses both ORD and MDW. Note that Southwest flights don’t show up in most flight search engines so be sure to check Southwest’s site on its own.

If you fly into O’Hare, the conference hotel, the Hyatt Regency O’Hare, has an airport shuttle that can easily get you to the hotel. If you’d prefer a more local experience, you can take the el (train) one stop from the airport to Rosemont and walk a few hundred yards to the hotel.

If you fly into Midway, you’ll need to take a taxi or rideshare to the hotel. Expect to pay between $40 and $60 for a ride from Midway.
