Becoming an Influencer: It’s Easier than You Think

YOU’VE GOT SKILLS. Mad skills. That’s why you have a job and a career and are respected in your field. You know what to write and which buttons to push and how to meet deadlines. As a technical communicator, you excel at making the complex simple and at adapting to new methods and tools. You seek them. You understand them. But are you successful in implementing them? Are you able to sell your ideas to your company? Do you know how to get the funding and headcount to make change happen?

CPTC Textbook Winners

Last week, the STC membership department had a contest to give away copies of STC’s CPTC (Certified Professional Technical Communicator) textbook, Richard Johnson-Sheehan’s Technical Communication Today, Fifth Edition (a $99 value!), to those who joined STC or renewed their 2017 membership. We had an excellent response to the contest, and we’d like to congratulate the winners!

What’s next for the Summit?

The 2017 Summit Call for Proposals is officially closed. Thanks to everyone who took the time to submit education session proposals for the 2017 Summit. This year, the Summit has a theme – “Gain the Edge to Get Results” – as well as restructured session types, both of which proposers kept in mind as they submitted 200 proposals for review.  So what happens next?

Reminder: Advanced Project Management Begins in One Week

The skills that we refine over time as technical communicators have a critical place in project management: communicating content, identifying audience needs, extracting knowledge from subject matter experts, and ensuring quality deliverables.
