Keeping track of your community’s finances can be a chore, especially if you’re using a written checkbook or homebrew Excel sheet. When it comes time to do your STC budget or financial report, guessing at the expenses and income for all the budget categories can be tricky. We recommend you use Quicken to track your community expenses. Quicken is a software application for both the PC and Mac.
My name is Lori Meyer, and I am honored to be a candidate for the STC Nominating Committee in 2016. The role I am seeking will be filled this year by two elected candidates, who will work with the existing Nominating Committee members to seek, evaluate, and select the candidates for next year’s Society leadership positions…candidates who you in turn elect. Members of the Nominating Committee are not actual voting members of the STC Board, but their role is critical nonetheless — because they are responsible for offering a slate of qualified candidates who are committed to serving STC and all of its members.
My name is Liz Herman and I would welcome your vote for Director on the STC Board. My story, in short, is that I see technical communication in everything that I do and have done in my 20 years of professional experience. I am an advocate for this wonderful, dynamic field of work. From teaching technical communication courses to serving the STC organization to managing large operational projects in multiple industries, I will bring scholar, member, and practitioner perspectives to this important position.

One membership program that doesn’t receive a ton of visibility, but is a definite value for members, is STC’s Affinity Program. This program offers special rates or services to STC members at a discounted price. In some cases, but not all, STC receives a small royalty from these corporate partners each time a member purchases one of their products. This money supports STC programs and helps to keep membership dues from increasing.
“Hear ye! Hear ye!” Okay, I’m not the town crier, but I do want to announce that we have reduced the price of the 2016 Gold Value Package membership from $425 to only $395. Many moons ago, I remember when the Gold price was $395 and hearing a lot of rumbling when it increased. Rumble no more! STC Chapters and Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are active in meetings, publications, conferences, and building technical communication communities. Adding a Chapter or SIG to your membership can allow you to expand your knowledge and your network.
The Leadership Program at the STC 2015 Summit http://summit.stc.org/ will be Sunday, June 21st, from 8 am to noon. The program offers an opportunity for STC community members to get together for sharing and learning. The program has a little something for everyone.
