Update on the New STC Website

Yesterday the launch for the new STC website was pushed back a week. While nearly every component of the site was ready, the final iMIS integration over the weekend revealed a problem that previous testing had not detected. We scrambled our fighters and began work to troubleshoot what had set off this series of events. We stood up a fresh Joomla! installation to no avail. We restarted servers, backed up and rebuilt databases, and still the integration we had worked to test previously, failed.

Because iMIS drives our member authentication, renewals, and education registration, we made the prudent decision to delay the launch to 7 February.

Of course, in true IT project fashion, Monday afternoon we discovered the root cause of the problem (a configuration error with the iMISiBO webservices) and have been working feverishly since then on the site. We’re reinstalling each section one by one to make sure there are no other issues and then we will move forward with the final integration.

We appreciate the kind words of support from many through email and on Twitter. It is very comforting to know that we’re not alone in having similar problems just before a launch. Your patience has been equally welcomed.

Know that we are committed to making this project successful and providing members with the website they deserve. We want the new STC site to be something we can all be proud of. On 7 February, that desire will come to fruition.

In the meantime, though, we recorded a brief walk-through of the website to give you a taste of what to expect. You can access a video of the walk-through here (warning: large file). Please note, however, that the dates have changed. Enjoy, and we look forward to introducing the new site on Monday!
