Sigma Tau Chi and Alpha Sigma are honorary societies that recognize student members of STC who have distinguished themselves as students and have demonstrated promise of future contributions to the Society and the profession. Membership to these societies is only awarded once and honorees retain the membership only as long as they are members in good standing of the Society.
Who is eligible: STC Members who are enrolled in a baccalaureate, graduate, two-year, or certificate program.
Who may recommend: Any member may nominate a student, or members may apply directly.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in a post-secondary baccalaureate or graduate-degree program with technical communication as a major, minor, specialization, or field of concentration.
- Hold a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 Grade Scale and verify this by sending a scan of an official transcript to the committee chair at the email provided in the application. These grades can be from just the applicant’s technical communication program, so long as they represent grades spanning an entire year.
- Submit an application by email to the committee chair on or before 16 December
- Submit 2 letters of recommendation verifying the high quality of work and leadership demonstrated via student achievement, internship positions, and participation in Society activities.
- One comes from a faculty member
- One comes from a current STC member
