Discovering Columbus

When STC announced the location of the 2015 Technical Communication Summit, there were mixed reactions. Columbus, Ohio. “What? Where?” people asked. I get it. I only discovered Columbus, Ohio when I traveled to the city for a job interview with Battelle last year. I was hired for the job and, although I am located in Battelle’s Arlington, Virginia office, I have spent a good amount of time traveling to Battelle’s Columbus-based headquarters over the past year. I can tell you that I have been pleasantly surprised by Columbus. I asked some Battelle colleagues working there to share what they find interesting and unique about Columbus.

Summit Topic Tango: The Dance of the Summit Call for Proposals

18 August 2014. There it was. Sitting in my email inbox. STC’s Call for Proposals for its annual Summit. How was it possible? I was still basking in the glow of the Summit in Phoenix, fondly remembering the dry heat, the networking, the plethora of informative sessions, the camaraderie of like-minded technical communicators, and my off-note karaoke singing at the TweetUp. I checked the inbox again. Yes, the message was still there. It was time to shake off the summer daydreaming and get to work on a proposal.

At the Summit: Looking Forward to Columbus

As was announced previously and highlighted in Phoenix, the 2015 Summit will be at the Hyatt Regency Columbus in Columbus, Ohio, from 21-24 June. To get attendees excited about Columbus we had a “quiz show” at the Closing Lunch at the Summit, hosted by Your Friendly Neighborhood Blogger (doing his best Wink Martindale impression). The questions are below; take the quiz and find out how well you know Columbus! Feel free to post your score in the comments section, then make your plans to join us for another great STC conference next year in Ohio.
