Meet the Candidates: Ann Marie Queeney for Director

This entry is being posted on behalf of Ann Marie Queeney, candidate for Director in the 2020 STC election.

Ann Marie QueeneyHello, my name is Ann Marie Queeney and I am running for STC Board Director.

I have received so much from STC and met so many supportive colleagues that I want to give back and contribute to the Society’s growth. As a member, I have had the opportunity to present at four Summits and gain valuable skills and knowledge to advance my career. STC is truly a special organization and technical communicators are special people.

My experience as a senior document specialist in a multi-national corporation, SIG leader, and board member of a non-profit historical organization has prepared me to serve as an effective STC Board member and advocate for you. I am results-oriented and open to exploring new opportunities to advance the Society.

I am currently the Policies and Procedures SIG Manager and Program Manager. During my nine years of volunteering with the Society, I have also served as Manager, Program Manager, and Membership Manager of the Technical Editing SIG. As a SIG leader I have helped develop a strategy for growth and managed budgets to maximize member benefits.

If elected to the Board, I would explore ways to:

  • Innovate while respecting and building on STC’s proven record of success as the premier technical communication society.

The Society’s Board and talented, dedicated staff offer members a vital service that the myriad of virtual groups cannot––sustained and personal support throughout their careers. If we build on our strengths and implement new ways to engage members, STC can thrive in a rapidly changing nonprofit environment.

  • Expand opportunities to expand collaboration.

While STC and its communities offer members a variety of valuable services, there is untapped potential to improve the Society’s value to its members through collaboration and sharing of services. As a SIG leader, I partnered with other STC community leaders to offer educational programs and improve member services (such as sharing a GoToMeeting license).

  • Improve communication within the Society.

A convenient, secure communication tool is vital for successful collaboration. It would also benefit many members who are not able to attend the Summit and rely on virtual communication to engage with other members.

I would be honored to represent you as a Director on the STC Board. Thank you very much for your consideration.
