THIS IS AN ASYNCHRONOUS COURSE. The recording for each week's session will be opened on Monday morning. Students may view the recording at a time convenient for them. Homework assignments will be due on the day and time specified by the instructor. The last session will be presented on 19 August, and the final assignment is due 26 August.  

 

In this course, students can expect to learn about JIRA as a tool to manage themselves or a team of technical writers. JIRA is useful to track and report project data to align with Key Performance Indicators and Organizational Objectives, increasing the value added by a technical writer or team. Data driven analytics using JIRA as a base tool provides a starting point to more accurately track work towards business objectives outlined by leadership in your organization.

This course can be completed with a free plan, available at https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/pricing. The instructor will use version 9.1.3 or later. Students should anticipate using reliable internet and a desktop/laptop computer for the entirety of this course.

  • Plan and architect an information taxonomy for writing projects
  • Understand the basic structure and setup of JIRA for writing projects
  • Learn how to track larger business objectives through individual project work in JIRA
  • Learn how to produce accurate reports using Roadmaps within JIRA
